Artistic Vice was founded in 2007 by Marcel Haug. Marcel is a graduate in mechanical engineering and has worked in that sector... for exactly one week. Soon enough, he realized that his true passion had to become his profession. And that passion is music.
Marcel started in 1994 as a music programmer at 'De Eland' in Delft and 'De Vlerk' shortly thereafter, before working at the legendary club Nighttown in Rotterdam. There he met Tijl Beckand; someone who loves music as much as Marcel and at the same time beckoned him into the world of comedy. It became a second passion: after a year of working together at Mojo with Tijl, Marcel joined production company Men At Work as a TV producerk. There, he produced The Comedy Factory, recognized as the tv show most directly responsible for introducing stand-up to a broad Dutch audience. Marcel was also involved in the famous show Raymann Is Laat, for which he has booked over 200 musicians and well over 400 (!) comedians.
Marcel is also the guy who first brought Amy Winehouse to the Netherlands (for a performance in Raymann Is Late) and he has worked with celebrities such as Kanye West, Zach Galifianakis, Kevin Hart and many others. Additionally, Marcel is well-known on the festival circuit: he booked artists for Lowlands, is one of the founders of Into The Great Wide Open, has been responsible for the music and comedy programming of the Oerol festival and founded, in 2014, the International Comedy Festival Rotterdam, which has become the biggest comedy festival in the Benelux.
With Artistic Vice, Marcel has set up a creative agency that focuses on the complete cultural sector. This allows him and his collaborators to continue his life's work. Artistic Vice provides programming for music and comedy festivals, clubs and television shows and provides tailor-made services for corporations who are looking for the right artist in the right place. Artistic Vice does so with the experience, knowledge and of course the passion that has characterized Marcel from the start.
